What are Engineering Controls?

  • A primary engineering control (PEC) is an ISO Class 5 laminar flow workstation, biological safety cabinet or pharmacy isolator that protects the critical process.
  • A secondary engineering control (SEC) is a Cleanroom, Containment Laboratory, Isolation Room or Containment Environment area, which may house a PEC.
